You see the words all over pickleball, but do you know that not all grips are the same? There are two main types of grips you’ll find in pickleball, overgrips and replacement grips. They both are trying to accomplish the same salty goal, to keep your hand safely on the handle of the pickleball paddle. But as much as they share a common goal, they’re two different grips and it’s extremely important you know the differences! Alright, we’re passionate about grips and being dramatic. However, it’s good to know the differences when it comes to overgrips vs. replacement grips.
What is an overgrip?
Want to add an overgrip to your pickleball paddle? Check out the below video of one of our Paddle Experts applying a Pickleskins Overgrip to their paddle.
What is a replacement grip?
A replacement grip is a longer-term commitment than your standard overgrip. Thicker and more padded, a replacement grip is installed directly to the actual paddle material and is meant to be the main grip used for play. With the extra padding comes extra durability, so expect your replacement grip to last significantly longer than an overgrip. If you’re not as serious about your grips, or you don’t want to have to regrip your paddles weekly, a replacement grip might be the perfect grip to wrap around your prized possession!
